He had a huge smile and would laugh all the way down the hill.  As soon as we dragged him up the hill and we were out of breath he would walk right over to the sled and sit down, ready to go again!</p> <p>Meet Mojo . . . Unfortunately the snow suit and shoes didn’t work out so his poor paws got really sore!</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-7htP5wGc2f4/T1TyMOIE9FI/AAAAAAAAA8o/CXPN1_eK0WM/s1600-h/IMG_0619%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0619" border="0" alt="IMG_0619" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-FgI63EiNYag/T1TyMU5ZYbI/AAAAAAAAA8w/vtESIK2I5zs/IMG_0619_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="407" height="306" /></a></p> <p>Kayla, Big Dylan, and Alyssa had a blast too! As you can tell we tried to keep Dylan warm but I think he still got a little cold.</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZn0Do03pYT6QKPp70I_nWwRKxthjwZVQdNWrAa5ydxQGRXXyECma4rhFG_8NhyphenhyphenKhLRPzdY87NphWaUrgvUc9r46_LOC4F_EiQaEgOx6OAITVlpntk2B9uDTiZDmESg1agWhFyN7ZGk4s/s1600-h/IMG_06064.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0606" border="0" alt="IMG_0606" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-SQQ_7_8jIjI/T07k42RCh1I/AAAAAAAAA7Q/FwV6AcbQdyI/IMG_0606_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="407" height="306" /></a></p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgh265hQpSUk86nLm-i1ks6jQyMm_qyf7YxjWybHNEmaOvkn8IFM4hj6yHCjNhG9cyCXq97NG2yxRXpuOu37I0PluMmwTLzVt1-KXbi2Pzhn_AE3u-kUuiT6821-1z3OxoHLPtpDtVCr3c/s1600-h/IMG_06114.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0611" border="0" alt="IMG_0611" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-h0ZHfJNAk0g/T07k5hc4uGI/AAAAAAAAA7g/UtcXhAlmr4w/IMG_0611_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" width="324" height="431" /></a></p> <p>Of course Dylan needed a snack after such hard work on that walk. . . </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-col_2piV5y8/T07k52RgKyI/AAAAAAAAA7o/q5SWAT87i7k/s1600-h/IMG_06125.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin-left: auto; border-left-width: 0px; margin-right: auto; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0612" border="0" alt="IMG_0612" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-j7WMNFjVR-o/T07k6HvYzrI/AAAAAAAAA7w/IGvPVruE7tQ/IMG_0612_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" width="387" height="291" /></a></p> <p>Overall it was really a fun little retreat.  It was nice to get away for just the weekend and feel the cold air on our faces. Plus I had never seen the Wutapki National Monument (at least that I remember) and the lava was pretty cool to see too.</p> Dan & Maryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12517145669145447355noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6549177980388641412.post-17586683575541786992012-02-27T21:27:00.001-07:002012-02-27T21:27:33.304-07:00Dylan’s 1st Birthday<p>My goodness Dylan is already 1.  We can’t believe our little baby has already been in our lives for over a year.  He is such a cute and fun little guy and there is never a dull moment with him around.  We are sure lucky parent to have him around.  </p> <p>Just before his birthday we had a cake smash photo shoot. I had fun making the diaper cover, tie, and cake.  Unfortunately Dylan didn’t really enjoy smashing the cake.  It appears that we have a little guy who likes to be clean and doesn’t like sticky things on his hands.  Don’t get me wrong he has no qualms going outside and playing in the dirt and eating rocks.  But when it comes to stuff that sticks to his fingers and won’t come off with a quick shake, that’s when he has issues.  Driving home from the cake smash photo shoot Dan made the comment, “well I didn’t think of this before but, Dylan is the kid that ‘freaks’ out when there is syrup on his hands when eating pancakes.”  Oh well we tried. . . plus we still got some pretty cute pictures. Plus how many great pictures do you really need. . . . Just feel a little guilty he had a bit of a melt down during the whole extravaganza.  </p> <p>Here are some cake smash photos:</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-v1n3pSFCRD0/T0xXeiuZTkI/AAAAAAAAA0o/-ups1InxwC4/s1600-h/IMG_7567-Edit%25255B6%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7567-Edit" border="0" alt="IMG_7567-Edit" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-3envjoXGN3I/T0xXfSZyVRI/AAAAAAAAA0w/NCTV42lwhng/IMG_7567-Edit_thumb%25255B3%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="324" height="483" /></a></p> <p align="center">“Mom, get this stuff off!!”</p> <p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfTrZ_Gt01603KnMFDcrgzdejDAy_2DhFZB5yJUpYtweTbvSu86quOzDPH4cJrAbGaOQdA1JwiEjB-ZJCVR-6AjBsUUEOT2vK3TtAAi0ajZdXwFtfdkuJH-zeTWBWaxvD-AZlyTuCUauA/s1600-h/IMG_7569-Edit%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7569-Edit" border="0" alt="IMG_7569-Edit" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-euWy5qhHGv0/T0xXgAKAyfI/AAAAAAAAA1A/_TolwwoRnx4/IMG_7569-Edit_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="299" height="446" /></a></p> <p align="center">“Okay Mom, I’ll give the cake a try. . .”</p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-3Dz3Ta46y_w/T0xXgS1klHI/AAAAAAAAA1I/zytsGt-lv_U/s1600-h/IMG_7572-Edit-2%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7572-Edit-2" border="0" alt="IMG_7572-Edit-2" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-41BRtY7HW0o/T0xXgiMe8nI/AAAAAAAAA1Q/KIDbWGzIpO8/IMG_7572-Edit-2_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="326" height="487" /></a></p> <p align="center">“I guess it doesn’t taste that bad. . .”</p> <p align="center"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigiY0M0WiWlNXTecExvVWy93cTN-088nyjGsqA6Amxi3fmXJIZZ3G30dpJB-QzGnFu9Erd4crr_C7UuwFWZWCxqAQ5sJaDTC2ywD-hiowsLMuxqbleSCaGsVRaIP8By6ss5gEL9ikn8us/s1600-h/IMG_7584-Edit%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_7584-Edit" border="0" alt="IMG_7584-Edit" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-TUNDrhs5gHc/T0xXhU1FrjI/AAAAAAAAA1g/ZppxJyalt4w/IMG_7584-Edit_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="294" height="439" /></a></p> <p align="center">“Dad, I need your help. WOW!! I can’t believe that 4 weeks has already gone by since Dylan was born. </p> <p>Dylan is growing fast however he is still wearing his newborn clothes (thanks Grandma & Grandpa Merrill) however some of them are starting to get a little small.  On a side note I just want to say that it is amazing the size differences between brands for the same size.  For example some newborn Carter brand are so much smaller than some clothes that are from Target.  It sure makes it difficult to find the right fitting clothes for our little Dylan!</p> <p>I believe this picture was taken the 1st of 2nd week Dylan was home:</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TVrOpthV-8I/AAAAAAAAAqE/_4gpobpAMzk/s1600-h/CIMG1500%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="CIMG1500" border="0" alt="CIMG1500" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TVrOp2KjvqI/AAAAAAAAAqI/EVSv6n-G9kk/CIMG1500_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="306" height="407" /></a></p> <p>We celebrated Dan’s birthday the day after we got home from the hospital.  Dylan was born on the 16th and Dan’s birthday is the 18th – Dylan was sure to have his own birthday and not have to share it with his Daddy!  We were so grateful that my Mom and Dad could celebrate with us.  Dad got P.F. Chang’s and a Baskin Robbins birthday cake.  It sure was yummy!! So here I am the day before I delivered Dylan:</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisfoI7X6DBRwbbBGeM4FbM8474iv6f_6SzXZHQu5gnP7Ymue5ogI8AoChLJRRP7ULbbE8ovGPxCY4pmU2UGS0zNvmjHshy0zTzSLMy41me99dxmDYLwuRUyU3gPVbCcW8Tsksiai4KXjE/s1600-h/IMG_0439-1%5B7%5D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0439-1" border="0" alt="IMG_0439-1" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TUSjIa7L4OI/AAAAAAAAAoo/i_3koZ-4CTs/IMG_0439-1_thumb%5B4%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="368" height="492" /></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TUSjIptMGAI/AAAAAAAAAos/Udm1hFsiLE0/s1600-h/IMG_0440-1%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0440-1" border="0" alt="IMG_0440-1" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TUSjI4KwxgI/AAAAAAAAAow/0WnIK1dbLro/IMG_0440-1_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="335" height="448" /></a></p> <p>Not thinking too much about it though, I finally showered and we went to bed around 10:30 pm.  Dan was tired and had to get up for church meetings in the morning so we conked out in bed while I took a shower.</p> <p>Once I finally crawled in bed, I couldn’t really sleep because I started having some contractions.  They were about 7-10 minutes apart, but they felt different than any contractions I had in the past.  Dan woke up ~ midnight/1 am and we started really timing the contractions.  We talked a lot about going to the hospital but couldn’t really make up our mind.  Dan decided to get up and take a shower and I straightened my hair (I had gone to bed with my hair wet!).  Once Dan was out of the shower the contractions seemed to slow down/stop and I was finally getting tired around 4/4:30 am.  So we decided that we would try to get some sleep and go from there.  However while lying in bed, trying to fall asleep, all of a sudden I feel a burst of water. . . I jump out of bed and get to the tile in the bathroom and a whole lot of water (well I guess it’s not really just water – but you know what I mean) gushes to the floor.  Pretty loudly I inform Dan that my water has broken and so he too jumps out of bed.</p> <p>I felt a little lost once my water had broken and wasn’t quite sure what to do.  Dan was a big help and informed me that I had better get dressed because we for sure were now going to the hospital.  So I put some dry clothes on, grabbed a towel for the car seat, and headed to the car.  So my water broke around 4:45 am and we were in the car driving on the freeway by 5:00 am.  My contractions then started about every 6 minutes and were getting stronger with each contraction.  We arrived at the emergency department and I was wheeled to the Labor and Delivery Triage.  </p> <p>We got to the triage bed and I again leaked a whole bunch of fluid all over my clothes and was given a hospital gown.  I was dilated to a 3/4, so they placed an IV line  and was soon taken to my LDR room (labor, delivery, and recovery room).  Because my blood pressure had been slowly increasing over the previous couple of weeks, they would not give me an epidural until my blood work returned normal.  So I labored until about 9 am when I finally was given my epidural.  Let me just say that I was really ready for the epidural when it finally came!!  Up until the epidural, they had given me a total of 3 mg of Stadol but I didn’t really like it (it made my head spin and I didn’t make a lot of sense when I tried to talk).  </p> <p>I finally got my epidural and I was very happy when that finally kicked in:</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TUSjJaUAuPI/AAAAAAAAAo0/c1unPd9TVlk/s1600-h/CIMG1445%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="CIMG1445" border="0" alt="CIMG1445" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TUSjJzU3ekI/AAAAAAAAAo8/qms1cvqENOw/CIMG1445_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="347" height="261" /></a></p> <p>Once the epidural was placed the nurse put my foley in and checked me again – I was now a 9 and pretty much immediately dilated to a 10.  Next they decided to just wait and see if his head would drop on its own before they started having me push.  So we waited . . . the contractions started to slow down to about every 10 minutes so they gave me a little oxytocin and we started the pushing.  The umbilical cord was wrapped around his body twice and so h wasn’t dropping very well.  Once the doctor was able to unwrap the cord, he came right out!</p> <p>So here he is:  7 lbs 7.4 oz     19 in long</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TUSjKGxZZxI/AAAAAAAAApA/96XOEMp1i50/s1600-h/CIMG1456%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="CIMG1456" border="0" alt="CIMG1456" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TUSjKgyQXeI/AAAAAAAAApE/5WBiu_-togk/CIMG1456_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="415" height="312" /></a></p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRJ1m6eSTbhJX9ESMw5t9tMJnNEHW1jaVueRlDX0oFsAPEJ0AnI7G3O3nQrW91pK7Vvvl_zBE1t83oWx0dtRslkA9I_e15pXfRP5DZCkmAtrTUlFuhQUAX5rSz_u2sztxRPbnD2FZW5E8/s1600-h/IMG_0457%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0457" border="0" alt="IMG_0457" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TUSjLEaPHFI/AAAAAAAAApM/63t_3pHOX4I/IMG_0457_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="422" height="318" /></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TUSjLqX2cCI/AAAAAAAAApQ/VvKbjdksuhE/s1600-h/IMG_0458%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG_0458" border="0" alt="IMG_0458" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TUSjL-KzgaI/AAAAAAAAApU/Xn-zAhDK5Nw/IMG_0458_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="422" height="318" /></a></p> <p>Lots of people came to visit us on the 16th at the hospital and thank you to everyone!! He also got out his soldering iron and wired them together so there’s only one switch to turn them on and adjust the dimness.  </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TS0Iw5Ebj5I/AAAAAAAAAnU/a0mVzyye2SI/s1600-h/CIMG1440%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="CIMG1440" border="0" alt="CIMG1440" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDrG9WcytF9GN30h1mv1mcTFoDunG7v0EQk03Tyh1ODe__AmhpANUAjxd6Kbg5Ri4rnjU1aiwrkt_EqOoIErw-CwFoQwXg7aidbEmJhiXWSa1FIxH3iN7gJBt0H5MUndWrfyTn_WjOPMU/?imgmax=800" width="426" height="320" /></a> </p> <p>So anyway his room is pretty much done – however we still haven’t figured out how to decorate the walls.  So if there are any suggestions, let us know.  </p> Dan & Maryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12517145669145447355noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6549177980388641412.post-68063037540209909972010-10-03T17:02:00.002-07:002011-01-09T10:18:11.307-07:00What Is Our Next Adventure?<p>Well as most of you all know, Dan and I are having a baby. We are very excited for this next chapter of our lives. I realize that I am now almost 25 weeks pregnant and I haven’t posted anything since our pool was finished back in May. You see May was the month we found out about our little one and after the excitement of the positive pregnancy test set in, so did the 24/7 nausea. That lasted well into my second trimester making me a little bitter about being pregnant. But now the nausea has finally left and I am just getting bigger and bigger!!</p><p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TKkZgGFssQI/AAAAAAAAAmY/6hqzyahM3kI/s1600-h/photo%5B3%5D.jpg"><img style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 0px; BORDER-LEFT: 0px; DISPLAY: inline; BORDER-TOP: 0px; BORDER-RIGHT: 0px" title="photo" border="0" alt="photo" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TKkZgV7LY-I/AAAAAAAAAmc/aRcvWMDZwEU/photo_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="414" height="554" /></a> </p><p>As you can see out little boy (yep, that’s right, a BOY!) is settling right in and growing fast! This picture was taken up in Greer, Arizona where the Merrill Clan gathered for an AWESOME weekend in the mountains to celebrate Dan’s father’s 60th birthday. We had a blast being up in the huge cabin with everyone together (although we missed Nonna!!). Besides being with everyone, one my favorite parts of the trip was the cooler weather up there.</p><p>With much deliberation, we have decided on a name for out boy. . . Dylan Jack -----Jack after my step-grandfather and Dylan because we like it. So we can now all refer to the baby in my tummy as Dylan.</p><p>We are starting to get the house ready for Dylan and we have started with his bedroom. Grandmother Doris has been generous enough to start it all off with the bedding for Dylan’s crib:</p><p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/TKkZgtGnFJI/AAAAAAAAAmg/Ft2fGsr9Sho/s1600-h/photo%5B10%5D.jpg"><img style="BORDER-BOTTOM: 0px; I do realize that February is shorter than January and that may have something to do with it, but there also was lots of stuff going on then too. Two weeks after our Colorado trip, we were off to San Francisco to visit Ben and Anisha. Once we got home, I started a new part-time job at the local hospital and Dan left for a business trip in Michigan. Once I started working at the hospital (I basically worked on every day I had off from CVS), the days sure seemed to fly by even faster.</p> <p>Our trip to San Francisco was short but a lot of fun. We flew in on Friday and Ben picked us up at the airport (Anisha was at work) and showed us a few sights before having to go to class. </p> <p>This is the few of downtown San Francisco atop a hill not far from their house. Pretty cool huh? </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7buVWKeK7I/AAAAAAAAAbo/jxgMplVHF0o/s1600-h/CIMG1249%5B4%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="CIMG1249" border="0" alt="CIMG1249" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7buV0N7LII/AAAAAAAAAbs/RbRVG2uvMmw/CIMG1249_thumb%5B2%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="412" height="310" /></a> </p> <p>Then we went to the beach. After seeing a few things we took the shuttle down to campus and then the Muni downtown and walked around. It was fun the see the city and all the different wharfs as we walked around. Of course we ended our walking tour at Ghirardelli Square.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7buWdRLFBI/AAAAAAAAAbw/urO8ABmPx8s/s1600-h/IMG_0194%5B3%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="IMG_0194" border="0" alt="IMG_0194" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7buWqYM7OI/AAAAAAAAAb0/oWS5Z_Stwu0/IMG_0194_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="408" height="542" /></a> </p> <p>Too bad I am not the biggest fan of chocolate :( Oh, but don’t worry they still served some pretty yummy ice cream!! Yum Yum!</p> <p>Ben then picked us up and we went and stopped at his favorite donut shop to see the giant donuts (they’re as big as cakes, wow!). They didn’t have any giant donuts left so we got regular sized ones for breakfast the next day. As for dinner that night, Chinese take out was on the menu. </p> <p>We had a hard time finding a parking spot when we got to the restaurant (We found out this isn’t that uncommon there in San Francisco), so we left Dan in the car while we ran in to order the food. We had parked in front of someone’s garage but when we got back to the car to wait for the food to be done, Ben turned the car off while we waited. BAD IDEA. . . We couldn’t get he car to start. Then the owner’s of the garage we were parked in front of came home and we couldn’t move. Luckily he was able to jump start our car and we got out of there!!</p> <p>Saturday morning was spend getting a new battery for Ben’s car. . . . Then we were off to hike in a red wood forest on the other side of the golden gate bridge. </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7buXpDG4VI/AAAAAAAAAb4/AogTTk56CbU/s1600-h/CIMG1250%5B3%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="CIMG1250" border="0" alt="CIMG1250" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7buYbKwSzI/AAAAAAAAAb8/yY1OWFxbwao/CIMG1250_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="411" height="309" /></a> </p> <p></p> <p>The trees were amazing!! and huge!!</p> <p>Here’s Dan inside one of the trees. . . . . . .</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7buYyhe46I/AAAAAAAAAcA/riJy3QPB2yo/s1600-h/CIMG1293%5B3%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="CIMG1293" border="0" alt="CIMG1293" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7buZmqIw3I/AAAAAAAAAcE/cKgvvmqv8Mw/CIMG1293_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="409" height="544" /></a> </p> <p></p> <p>There was one last pit stop before we went back to the apartment.</p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7buaPwdjmI/AAAAAAAAAcI/TXHwoUu6Zw8/s1600-h/CIMG1298%5B3%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="CIMG1298" border="0" alt="CIMG1298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyRC7wd2Lg100IFyaN_w5DUcZhOYCD9Ah14HkgmINPF4-X67-sUN4XZZvuBMkopXnu1sjB9tcGs8bTvhcg5f8V8JZaSqLu4LpbbrcZ6DoKGUhUVlYb6yeGu6vG2TvvU5R5cyXcB3P0f7Y/?imgmax=800" width="403" height="303" /></a> </p> <p>As you can tell from the photos, it’s a littler greener there than here in good old AZ.</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7bubTeOlrI/AAAAAAAAAcQ/p--zPbCGQfI/s1600-h/CIMG1299%5B3%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="CIMG1299" border="0" alt="CIMG1299" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7bub33UlRI/AAAAAAAAAcU/8ysc0BBGpkY/CIMG1299_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="400" height="301" /></a> </p> <p>That night we went to the Cheesecake Factory on the top floor of Macy’s. No pictures from dinner but it was an interesting experience trying to find a parking spot (well actually there was one particular parking garage that Ben was determined to find that we drove around a while trying to find . . . we found it in the end!) and walking through many floors of women’s clothes to get to the top of the department store for the restaurant. On the plus side, there is plenty of things to look at while you’re waiting for a table!</p> <p>Sunday we went to church and then we came home so that we could be rested and ready for work the next day. We had a great time in San Fran and can’t wait to go back and hike through the red forests again!</p> <p>NOTE: We need to get better at taking pictures. We didn’t have any good group photos of the four of us :(</p>Dan & Maryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12517145669145447355noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6549177980388641412.post-23774668097627260582010-04-02T23:59:00.002-07:002010-04-03T10:21:36.145-07:00Ooops!<p>I forgot the best picture of the whole trip to Colorado. . . </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7bnOtCoRkI/AAAAAAAAAbg/iv5gnXIoMvc/s1600-h/IMG_0191%5B3%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="IMG_0191" border="0" alt="IMG_0191" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7bnPv8orzI/AAAAAAAAAbk/A_5PfR3Qtok/IMG_0191_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="402" height="534" /></a> </p> <p>And yes, the brownies were as good as they look!!</p>Dan & Maryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12517145669145447355noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6549177980388641412.post-44645818777216737432010-04-02T23:52:00.001-07:002010-04-02T23:52:48.929-07:00January<p>The month of January seemed to fly by.  After recovering from Christmas we were off to Colorado to visit Liz and Dave and their kids.  We really wanted to get some snowboarding in this winter and thought, “what greater place to snowboard than Colorado?”  So off we went to Colorado.  It was quite an adventure trying to get out of town.  Of all places, the Phoenix valley was getting hit pretty hard with rain and super fast winds.  Because of the wind, every flight out of Phoenix was cancelled the night we were supposed to fly out.  BUMMER!!</p> <p>After calling Southwest, the only flight available was the next day, leaving at ~9pm.  We were super bummed and even toyed with the idea of driving instead.  Dan and I went home and chilled while torrential rains were coming down outside.  Around midnight we decided to check all the flights for the next day and there happened to be two openings on the first flight of the day leaving at 7 in the morning.  We quickly called Southwest and told them that we would gladly take the last two seats on the plane.  </p> <p>We soon realized that it was after midnight and we didn’t have a ride the airport in 4 hours.  We quickly got some rest and then drove ourselves to the airport.  Just before take off, we called mom and begged her to pick up our car from short-term parking.  </p> <p>Well we finally made it to Colorado, what’s next you ask?  More fun. . .  We had told Liz that we weren’t coming in until late that evening so she had to work.  So we rented a car (that’s a completely different fiasco for another time) and drove straight to the ski lift. </p> <p>We then spent the afternoon at Loveland Ski Resort snowboarding in the wonderful snow with the sun shining above us. </p> <p>The rest of the trip wasn’t quite as crazy but we really had a great time hanging out with Liz, Dave, Andrea, Sophie, and Nadia.  We got to practice our snowboarding skills, do a little ice skating, take a hike at Roxborough State Park, and give my little brother a break from the crazy Air Force Academy. </p> <p>Here we are ice skating outside on a real lake.  Pretty cool, huh? </p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcQjvBRfz_-K7z23k0-2r8yhvk-GfFuA5nEzLqJFjDRiWYGsbwJVqqs8TgdaVCwre0b7SBTskD_M-mjqHZ8VwxqeAsiFEdPhfWx6cpSi4EBlaKVgFU1YJ5m4pn6Zyi6Hwuq1Hc7QDQQFM/s1600-h/IMG_0183%5B3%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="IMG_0183" border="0" alt="IMG_0183" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7blqHza2KI/AAAAAAAAAa0/p-l1n1XhA90/IMG_0183_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="421" height="560" /></a> </p> <p> I’ve never ice skated on a real, frozen lake before.  You see in Phoenix we only have indoor ice rinks.  It was really fun.  However it was a little windy, and I’m a wimp from Arizona so I thought it was pretty cold.  The kids out on the ice didn’t seem to agree with me.  There were some crazy kids out there in short sleeved shirts and others in skirts with tights!!  Crazy!!</p> <p>Here are three pictures from our short hike at Roxborough:</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7blqyqZWJI/AAAAAAAAAa4/XWhnLAzYaIM/s1600-h/IMG_0184%5B3%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="IMG_0184" border="0" alt="IMG_0184" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7blraVz5lI/AAAAAAAAAa8/tc5TC-nr_4w/IMG_0184_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="409" height="544" /></a> </p> <p>Funny story is that Seth only had his “blues” for clothes so he had to borrow a pair of Dave’s sweat pants.  The only problem is Dave is a little shorter than Seth. . . . Oh well, good thing he wasn’t pickin’ up girls on the trail!! </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S7blr0T4DUI/AAAAAAAAAbA/JN5yf3ii57s/s1600-h/IMG_0186%5B3%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; Yum Yum!!</p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/S0aAFdV1SLI/AAAAAAAAAZM/09FMNTVvBSQ/s1600-h/CIMG1197%5B3%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; My favorite rides were definitely California Screamin’ and Hollywood’s Tower of Terror.  We also saw the Alladin show while in California Adventure.  That was pretty neat to see a live show and it followed the movie pretty close too.  We even met up with Chris and his friends to say “hello!” before they went to go see the show.  After going back to Disneyland that afternoon we walked around Downtown Disney.  Here’s Dan at the Lego Store. . .</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/SzucemyMIOI/AAAAAAAAAYo/b5VwwkdaiJ8/s1600-h/CIMG1194%5B5%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="CIMG1194" border="0" alt="CIMG1194" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/SzucfPTGhTI/AAAAAAAAAYs/iX66PJu_1gw/CIMG1194_thumb%5B1%5D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244" /></a>  </p> <p>  We saw the new Twilight movie . . . New Moon.  It was pretty good.  We shared a pizza at this nice little restaurant and watched the fireworks from our outside table.  Sunday we took the day to relax and then on Monday we had our last day at Disneyland.  We wanted to hit a few of the rides that we really enjoyed.  Also we had to get to the Inidana Jones ride.   We tried really hard but we never seemed to be able to get there.  The first time it was closed down and then there was always a long wait.  Monday morning it was closed down but we had gotten fast passes and then went to ride Space Mountain.  When we got back it was closed but so we just sat there and waited until it opened.  We ended up being the first car to go back on the ride.  Since we finally got that ride in we thought it was okay to leave.   </p> <p>Oh yeah, we can’t forget about the giant turkey leg!! Dan sure enjoyed it!</p> <p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7ws6A2AGXucLMfE99yFeP8dWteR0Xl28-Hg9LN2iPXRLCLOgxazKMdW1-WAKp-3H3bPzj1WPv_rpMGU6IrVqLZCnDiSPbQVHOiMgNxvQabSMzAjJBdEMhpDWcFQ0KGklbgv2KdM47a-0/s1600-h/CIMG1191%5B2%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="CIMG1191" border="0" alt="CIMG1191" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/Szucf6pfO8I/AAAAAAAAAY0/lFiwO0GRLww/CIMG1191_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244" /></a> </p> <p>Don’t worry, I’m just posing for the picture.  I didn’t actually eat any of the leg (it kind of grosses me out!!!)</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/Szucga2JxWI/AAAAAAAAAY4/Z7R3PH1ymo8/s1600-h/CIMG1192%5B2%5D.jpg"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="CIMG1192" border="0" alt="CIMG1192" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_gwdiF5sL6-4/Szucgt9mSpI/AAAAAAAAAY8/nBmW5jvrs84/CIMG1192_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184" /></a> </p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p></p> <p>On our drive home we of course had to stop at the outlets and do some Christmas shopping!  FUN FUN!  </p> <p>Overall we had a really great time, now we have to plan our next trip for Six Flags Magic Mountain!!!</p> Dan & Maryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12517145669145447355noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6549177980388641412.post-6763533584573397502009-12-05T12:25:00.001-07:002009-12-05T12:25:56.049-07:00All Finished<p>There, I finally got all the cruise posted on the blog.  I realize it took me forever but it is finally done.  Plus Dan downloaded this program that makes blogging a whole lot easier.  Thanks Dan!!!  Now I won’t get frustrated like I was before about doing longer posts and lots of pictures.  I can post pictures as I go along.  Much easier!!</p> <p>Anyway I hope you all enjoy the pictures even though most of you have seen them all already.  Dan and I really had a great time with Sara and Lowell (I think they had a great time as well!).  Next time we’ll have to get more family to come with us.  Dan and I think it would be really fun to get as much of the family to do a short cruise out of California down to Mexico sometime.  They’re pretty inexpensive and you can do a 4 day cruise and just drive over to California which would help with cost.  So let us know when someone wants to go and we’ll join you!!!</p> Dan & Maryhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12517145669145447355noreply@blogger.com0
